McDonald’s Canada Update on Support for our Communities – #FriesForGood, Coffee + More
Together with its franchisees, McDonald’s Canada has been finding big and small ways to support the communities in which it operates. Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, McDonald’s has remained committed to serving our people, our guests and the communities in which we operate.
On May 6, 2020, McDonald’s Canada announced #FriesForGood, a nationwide initiative to support COVID-19 relief efforts and other recent Canadian emergencies. From May 8-21, 2020, McDonald’s Canada donated a portion of the proceeds from all fries sold in Canada to the Canadian Red Cross. This initiative not only provided an opportunity to rally Canadians to help support individuals and families across the country who need it most, but it also showcased McDonald’s unwavering support for Canadian potato farmers. In only two weeks, Canadians’ love of our World Famous Fries™ raised over $1.1M for the Canadian Red Cross.
On March 21, 2020, we announced our free McCafé® coffee or tea initiative, which is available to all frontline healthcare workers and emergency services personnel, at participating restaurants nationally. This small gesture of our appreciation for those working the frontlines of this pandemic every day – protecting and caring for our communities across the country – has resulted in over 2.7 million and counting free coffees served to date. As we gradually reintroduce take-out at restaurants, as well as dine-in where provincial regulations allow, we will continue to offer a complimentary medium McCafé coffee or tea to Canadian frontline healthcare workers and emergency services personnel until June 28, 2020.
In addition to the initiatives above, McDonald’s Canada, together with its franchisees and suppliers, has been providing meals and food to individuals and organizations:
- Over 11,000 meals donated to frontline healthcare workers, and essential and emergency services, as well as RMHC® Houses across the country
- More than 250,000 pounds of food donated to local food banks and other charities
At McDonald’s Canada, we know our guests depend on their local McDonald’s. As we begin welcoming guests back into restaurants, starting with the reintroduction of take-out service, the health and well-being of our people and our guests remains our highest priority. As we transition into future phases of recovery, we are committed to continuing to serve delicious food that Canadians love, while also finding ways to support the communities where we operate.
