TORONTO, ON (August 24, 2011) - With the goal of further empowering customers to make informed menu choices based on their individual dietary needs and preferences, McDonald’s Canada has developed a one-of-a-kind Nutrition Calculator App that is available for free from the iTunes App Store.

“For more than 30 years, we’ve led the quick-service restaurant industry by proactively providing our customers with comprehensive nutrition information both in-restaurant and online,” said Richard Ellis, Senior Vice President, Communications and Public Affairs, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited. “We’re thrilled to expand the accessibility of this information to a new platform, one that makes it easier than ever for people to check nutrient values and customize their order before they make a purchase.”

Available in both English and French, the McDonald’s Canada iPhone Nutrition Calculator App allows users to drag and drop their menu choices to a virtual tray where they can immediately see detailed nutrition information for their entire meal as well as specific items. A unique feature is the ability to remove ingredients (e.g. cheese, margarine, sauces, etc) depending on how customers like to eat their favourite McDonald’s menu item.

McDonald’s Canada has a long-standing history of supporting Canadians in making informed eating choices. The company recently lent its support - the only restaurant company in Canada to do so - to the Nutrition Facts Education Campaign, which was launched in collaboration with Health Canada and helps Canadians better understand and use the Nutrition Facts table, particularly the % Daily Value.

“Our goal is to promote a holistic approach to nutrition disclosure that goes beyond calorie counts by providing our customers with the 13 core nutrients they’re already familiar with in the Nutrition Facts table,” added Ellis. “The launch of this application adds to an already robust arsenal of tools at our customers’ disposal, including in-restaurant posters and trayliners, as well as detailed information on selected packaging and in our online Nutrition Calculator.”
McDonald’s Canada also has a free Restaurant Finder App available for download in the iTunes App Store. Among its many features, it allows users to track the nearest McDonald’s restaurant offering free Wi-Fi service powered by Bell.
Download for iPhone now - free from the App Store. Or use your mobile device to download it directly from the store.
