McDonald’s® Canada Brings the Cool Factor with Launch of McCafe Iced Frappes

Company expands McCafe offerings and enters the estimated $300 million Blended Ice Cofee category

TORONTO, ON (August 7, 2013) – With summer days in full swing, McDonald’s Canada expands its premium beverage portfolio and evolves the McCafé brand with the national launch of McCafé Iced Frappés. The new menu item marks the company’s entry into the Blended Ice Coffee category – which represents an estimated 130 million annual servings and surpasses smoothies and iced coffee servings in the quick service industry** - as it aims to establish a leadership position within this sizeable market.

Following the launch of McCafé in 2011, McDonald’s has served over 32 million espresso-based McCafé beverages and more than doubled its coffee market share - outpacing the growth of the industry overall. Due to the overwhelming success of the McCafé brand, over 1,000 restaurants across Canada now carry McCafé offerings.

Blended ice beverages are highly popular among Canadian consumers, especially during the summer months. With double-digit increase from 2012, the Blended Ice Coffee category is growing on trend with consumer demand – included in approximately three percent of all visits within the quick service industry. **

“In response to Canadians’ love for blended ice drinks, we are proud to offer McCafé Iced Frappés,” added Betts. “We’re continuing to surprise and delight our customers while catering to their relevant needs and preferences – which is always our top priority.”

Starting at $1.69 plus tax for a snack size, McCafé Iced Frappés are cool and delicious from start to finish and are available in two exciting flavours:

·         • Coffee Iced Frappé – the perfect balance of coffee flavour, made sweet and smooth and blended with ice.

·         Vanilla Chai Tea Iced Frappé –bringing together vanilla and chai flavours, including cinnamon and nutmeg, made sweet and smooth and blended with ice.

McDonald's McCafé lineup also includes premium roast brewed coffee, authentic espresso-based beverages made with freshly ground beans, real whipped cream and fresh milk, as well as Iced Coffee and Real Fruit Smoothies.

The launch of McCafé Iced Frappés is supported by a large multi-channel advertising campaign, including TV, radio, out-of-home, digital and in-store merchandising.
