Toronto, ON (May 30, 2014) –McDonald’s Canada today announced it is expanding its breakfast menu offerings by bringing a whole grain option to its iconic Egg McMuffin sandwich. Made with 100 per cent whole grains, the new option gives Canadians a delicious and nutritious breakfast sandwich to enjoy on-the-go.

The new option comes as result of Canadians’ evolving food preferences. According to recent data published by NPD, 33 per cent of Canadians incorporate whole grains into their diet* while 50 per cent say they are eating more foods with whole grains in their diet compared to the previous year**.

“As our menu continues to evolve, we want it to reflect Canadians’ dietary needs and lifestyle choices,” said Anne Parks, Director of Menu Management, McDonald’s Canada. “Introducing the Egg McMuffin on a whole grain option is an indication of our on-going commitment to providing the nutrition-minded and convenient choices our customers want while delivering the great taste they expect from McDonald’s.”

The Egg McMuffin is a convenient, warm, all-in-one sandwich made with quality ingredients including: a freshly-cracked Canada Grade A large egg, Canadian bacon, processed cheese and now the choice between a white or whole grain toasted English muffin – all for 290 calories per sandwich.

The Egg McMuffin on whole grain is a permanent menu option and is available at participating McDonald’s restaurants across Canada beginning at 4 a.m. at selected restaurants.

The launch of the Egg McMuffin on whole grain is supported by a multi-channel advertising campaign including TV, radio and in-store merchandising.
