TORONTO, ON (February 1, 2011) - It’s been more than 35 years since McDonald’s first introduced Canadians to the simple, easy enjoyment of breakfast on-the-go. Today, McDonald’s Canada is proud to mark the continued evolution of its breakfast menu with the introduction of Buttermilk Biscuits.

“McDonald’s Buttermilk Biscuits are made with real buttermilk and fresh baked daily, and each warm biscuit comes out light and fluffy, just like homemade,” said Anne Parks, Director of Menu Management, McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited. “Our customers were keen for us to develop a new hand-held breakfast sandwich and we’re thrilled to deliver on those expectations with a product that we know Canadians will love.”

The new Buttermilk Biscuit marks the most significant breakfast menu launch for McDonald’s Canada since the McGriddles® successfully debuted in 2003. Customers will also have the added benefit of some extra time in the morning to enjoy this new offering with the extension of breakfast hours to 11:00 a.m., seven days a week, at most locations across Canada.

“At McDonald’s, product development is a quality-focused, customer-driven process that takes the utmost care in combining great taste with the value, convenience and fast, friendly service people expect from us,” added Parks. “With the growing popularity of our Premium Roast Coffee and our extended hours, we continue to enhance Canadians’ breakfast experience with what we believe to be the best-in-class biscuit.”

The new Buttermilk Biscuit is available at participating McDonald’s restaurants nationwide, excluding certain retail locations, and can be enjoyed a variety of ways: as a Sausage, Egg and Processed Cheese Biscuit, as a Bacon, Egg and Processed Cheese Biscuit, as a Sausage Biscuit (part of Value Picks® options) or on its own with strawberry jam.

From the outset of the breakfast revolution that McDonald’s started 35 years ago to today’s new chapter in its menu evolution, the quick-service restaurant leader has given Canadians many reasons to start their day with a smile, as evidenced by this timeline featuring many iconic products.
